Dry Eye Clinic

Welcome to the Lacey Practice’s Advanced Dry Eye Clinic

Do your eyes often feel dry, gritty, sore, watery or tired? Do you experience blurred or fluctuating vision, discomfort when using screens or problems wearing contact lenses?

At The Lacey Practice, our Dry Eye Clinic provides comprehensive dry eye assessments and personalised treatment to help you understand the cause of your symptoms and improve eye comfort.

Our approach goes beyond simply using eye drops. We look at the eyelids, tear film and meibomian glands to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms.

What is our Dry Eye Clinic?

What is Dry Eye?

Dry eye occurs when the tears do not adequately lubricate and protect the surface of the eye.

A common cause is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), where the tiny oil-producing glands in the eyelids become blocked or do not function effectively. This can cause tears to evaporate too quickly, resulting in irritation and an unstable tear film.

Recognise the common signs of dry eyes:

  • Dry, gritty or sandy-feeling eyes

  • Burning or stinging

  • Red or irritated eyes

  • Watery eyes

  • Tired or uncomfortable eyes

  • Fluctuating or blurred vision

  • Sensitivity to light

  • Discomfort when wearing contact lenses

  • Increased discomfort when using digital screens

If these symptoms are affecting your everyday life, a professional dry eye assessment can help identify possible contributing factors.

What happens at your first visit?

Step 1: Dry Eye Assessment

Our resident optometrist, with over 35 years’ clinical experience, assesses your vision, eye health, tear film, eyelids and, where appropriate, meibomian glands. For new patients, we usually recommend a comprehensive eye examination to help identify or rule out other possible causes of your symptoms.

Step 2: Eye Comfort Therapy

For patients with more persistent symptoms, we may recommend our exclusive Eye Comfort Therapy, a gentle, non-invasive treatment to support eyelid health and tear film function using a combination of therapeutic heat, enhanced eyelid care and a longer relaxation phase. The treatment is performed externally on closed eyelids and is designed to be both comfortable and relaxing.

Step 3: Review & Maintain

A woman with red hair and glasses is smiling while sitting and talking with a girl with long brown hair in a cozy indoor setting. The woman is wearing a brown coat, cream pants, and holding a coffee mug. There is a large green plant behind them and a glass display case in the background.

Dry eye often requires ongoing management rather than a one-off treatment. We’ll recommend a personalised home-care routine and, where appropriate, further treatment or maintenance appointments.
